My First HPMF Convention and the Honour of Being a Manikarnika Woman Achiever of the Year

As I write this blog, I am still beaming with humility, pride and gratitude for the recent HPMF Convention and Awards held in Lucknow and Ayodhya Dham from 26 to 29 September 2024. This was my first – attending event of the Hospitality Procurement Managers Forum (HPMF), and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I stepped into the convention, I was struck by the impeccable planning and execution that went into making this event a grand success.

The entire schedule was well curated, with a perfect blend of keynote addresses, industry discussions, and motivational talks. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the unveiling of new initiatives that showcased HPMF’s growth and commitment to social responsibility. The emphasis on sustainability, green technology, women’s equity, participation in DEI initiatives, and social causes resonated deeply with me.

I was inspired by the stories of resilience, growth, innovation, and sustainability shared by industry leaders and government officials. The cultural and spiritual aspects of the event were also noteworthy, with a visit to the holy Shri Ram Lalla Temple and cultural festivities at the Ram Katha Park.

The HPMF Convention 2024 was marked by thought provoking speeches from esteemed industry leaders. Chief Guest Mr. Surendra Jaiswal, President of HRANI and the UP Hotel & Restaurant Association, set the tone for the event with his insightful keynote address. He emphasised on the importance of innovation, sustainability and perseverance in driving the future of the hospitality industry. His words resonated deeply with the audience, inspiring a sense of optimism and forward thinking.

The Guest of Honour, Mr. Gaurav Prakash, a renowned entrepreneur and hotelier, shared his visionary insights on the evolving landscape of hospitality in India. His presentation focused on strategic partnerships and technological advancements. He highlighted the revenue generation potential as well as the unique attractions of Uttar Pradesh.  Also how the state had a great role to play in tourism and tourist arrivals for India. His remarks were met with great enthusiasm and appreciation from the audience, who were eager to learn from his wealth of experience. He invited people to visit UP saying, ‘UP nahi dekha tou India nahi dekha’.

The convention was a thought provoking and engaging experience, with over 525 delegates. The event was attended by prominent figures from the industry, including hotel owners, speakers, VIPs, media representatives, and leading vendors from India and abroad.

The theme of ‘Ease of Doing Business in Hospitality Industry’ set the stage for insightful discussions on industry trends and innovations. The conference featured high profile speakers sharing valuable knowledge on challenges and opportunities in the hospitality, airlines, and F&B industry.

HPMF presented Women Achievers Award 2024 to 14 exceptional women leaders from across India, recognising their outstanding contributions and achievements. This award was a celebration of their leadership, innovation, and dedication to their profession.

I am humbled to be awarded the Manikarnika Woman Achiever of the Year 2024, which is a great honour and an acknowledgement of whatever little I have been able to contribute to the hospitality industry particularly towards learning and development and DEI. I extend my gratitude to Dr. Nitin Nagrale, the driving force behind HPMF, for his leadership and vision. His dedication to creating a platform for individuals from diverse backgrounds to come together and share their experiences is truly commendable.

It was an honour to be a part of this esteemed event, celebrating the achievements of women leaders. As the Founder of Indian Women in Hospitality (IWH) and Professor & HOD at the Apeejay Institute of Hospitality, the learning centre of The Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels Ltd.  I am delighted to see the growth and recognition of women in this field.

I spoke about the journey of IWH, my vision to work towards empowering women, DEI and also about my book Illuminating Her Way. It was heartwarming to see  delegates and guests at the event approach me and offer their support. This highlights the power of human spirit and how the universe supports a good cause. I feel humbled and blessed.

I would like to extend my gratitude to the Tourism Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh for their support in making this event a grand success. Their commitment to promoting Uttar Pradesh as a tourism and hospitality hub is commendable.

The HPMF Convention has left an indelible mark on my life, and I am grateful for the experience. I look forward to continuing my journey with HPMF and being a part of future initiatives that promote DEI, growth and development in various sectors and industries.
